Robert Millar – The High Life

Fri 15 Jun at 6.30pm
Britain 1986 • 52m • BETA SP • PG • Documentary

The opening film for this year’s festival is a fascinating TV documentary which looks at top professional Scottish cyclist Robert Millar’s preparation for the 1986 Tour de France. Millar was Britain’s best ever Tour de France cyclist, as well as one of the country’s most enigmatic and mysterious sportsmen. He was a giant of the major tours – of France, Spain and Italy – in the 1980s and early 90s, and he remains the only English-speaking cyclist ever to be crowned King of the Mountains in the Tour de France. He retired in 1995 but he has since severed his ties with the sport, to all intents and purposes disappearing.

This screening coincides with the launch of the book ‘In Search of Robert Millar: Unravelling the Mystery Surrounding Britain’s Most Successful Tour de France Cyclist.’ The fi lm will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with the book’s author, journalist Richard Moore. Signed copies of the book will be available.
